Lentil Soup

(Serves:1)

Ingredients
  • ½ cup yellow moong dal (split mung beans)
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 tsp ghee or clarified butter
  • 1 tsp of freshly grated ginger
  • 1 clove of garlic minced
  • ¼ cup of cilantro leaves chopped
  • 2 kokum soaked & pulp extracted
  • ½ tsp of black mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 2 pinches of hing
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp of garam masala
  • Rock salt to taste
  • 5-6 fresh curry leaves
How to make
  1. Wash moong dal twice and soak in for an hour. Pressure cook themung dal with water ,salt& turmeric till done.
  2. Once dal is cooked, turn off the heat and using a hand held blender , blend the soup to a smooth consistency. Add the kokum pulp &keep the soup aside.
  3. Heat ghee in a small pan andadd cumin seeds, mustard seeds and hing.
  4. When the seeds splutter turn down the heat and add ginger, garlic, curry leaves, cilantro leaves, bay leaf and garam masala powder.
  5. Add the tempering to the blended dal soup.
  6. Serve hot.
